Audio/Video Counselling Directory Listing
August 9, 2008
Have you ever looked back in amazement at the changes that have occurred since we have gained access to the Internet? Information now flows at a pace that is well beyond what we would have imagined as little 10 years ago. And as you know, because you are visiting this site, we use the Internet for so many purposes now - buying products, finding information, looking for expertise, etc.
But in 1999, when CounsellingBC.com first came off the drawing board, I recall a very prominent Psychologist, who was conducting a professional development workshop, saying "Can you imagine someone actually using the Internet to find a Counselling professional?" Fortunately I thought "Yes, actually!"
So CounsellingBC.com was developed in its rudimentary form back then. You could still look for professionals by geographic region, except that it didn't really matter since all of the counsellors on the site (about 10-15 in total) were located in Vancouver. Now, with over 250 professionals, there is a significant amount of expertise represented and professionals who have offices over a much wider geographic area.
The newest development of CounsellingBC.com -- to be introduced in October -- is the Audio/Video listing. That will mean that some counsellors and psychologists will have either an audio or video connected to their listing to further enhance the information available about them. While the audios or videos will only be 1 minute in length they the additional information that can be taken from sound and image will likely have a significant impact on the ability to make a decision about whether or not to contact a particular professional. That being said, the written word is still extremely powerful and we know that what people say in writing can be as important, or even more important in some instances than audio-visual input.
So we look forward to your feedback. One thing for certain - CounsellingBC.com continues to innovate so that people get the information that they need.
