Stephen is a registered clinical counsellor with the BCACC and has a Master’s in Counselling Psychology. He has been practicing family therapy for 20 years, both in the non-profit sector and as a private practitioner. Stephen also supervises and administers a counselling clinic in Surrey providing clinical supervision and direction to students completing an internship for their Masters in Counselling Psychology. Stephen also does private practice work and employee assistance services as well as clinical supervision for other counsellors. He has extensive experience in individual and family counselling.

Stephen is fluent in Spanish and works with families from the Latin community. His clinical supervision and private practice experience means that he is always researching for effective ways to assist clients and students. His previous work has taught him the power of hope and confidence that people can understand and manage their issues.

Stephen practices a client-centered approach, and is an integrative therapist. He is trained in Family Systems Therapy as well as the Brief Therapy Modalities such as Narrative and Solution Focused approaches. He has trained as a trauma therapist in the ‘Clinical Interventions in Trauma” certificate program through the Justice Institute. He has completed a counselling certificate in Family Systems Theory through Pacific Coast Family Therapy Association. He has completed Gottmann’s Couple work Level 1 training as well as completed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training with Dr.David Burns to assist with anxiety and depression issues. He incorporates mindfulness in his clinical work. He is able to work with clients in an integrated manner.

Stephen has an interest in men’s issues and he helped many men with emotion and anger management. He has helped couples work through difficult relationship issues such as intimacy and infidelity. He has helped many adolescents cope with anxiety and addiction and behavioural issues. He has helped parents with parenting issues, and individuals with depression, anxiety and grief issues. He also counsels couples through divorce and separation and co-parenting plans. Stephen also has also successfully provided substance misuse assessment and counselling to individuals. As well he has experience and expertise in with working with  the family to resolve family issues.
