Preetika's work as a psychotherapist began when she completed her Masters in Social Work degree.  She is a Registered Social Worker, is involved with the Western Branch Canadian Psychoanalytic Society and is the Associate Director of the Indo-Canadian Family Treatment Clinic.  Preetika has worked in alcohol and drug treatment centers, provincial mental health centers, acute in-patient psychiatry, the Canadian military and offers short and long-term therapy for individuals, couples and families.

Preetika is experienced in counseling clients from diverse backgrounds and with a variety of issues.  Counseling topics include: anxiety, depression, addiction/recovery, sexuality, grief/loss, self-esteem, anger, trauma, cross-cultural issues, relationship dynamics, mental health and personal growth.

Preetika's theoretical framework is primarily psychodynamic although she draws from other modalities such as: cognitive behavioral therapy, family systems, coaching, motivational therapy, solution-focused therapy and mindfulness.  She strongly believes that in order to have a successful experience in therapy, the key element is to provide an environment based on empathy, respect and compassion. 

Preetika is passionate in helping individuals make internal changes and to transform negative, repetitive patterns that create emotional barriers.  With therapy,  it is possible to gain insight and understanding into your life issues, learn to love and accept yourself, discover new ways to relate to others and create a meaningful life.
