Dr. Ungar is a seasoned therapist with over 25 years of experience as a psychiatrist in Europe and a clinical psychologist in Canada. As a young physician, he was confronted by pressing existential questions raised by his patients. Motivated by a sense of duty in providing answers, he completed his residency training in neuro-psychiatry and obtained a Masters Degree in Psychodynamic Therapy. As student of the well-known Viennese psychiatrist Viktor Frankl, he completed his Ph.D. in Existential Psychotherapy. Subsequently, Dr. Ungar continued his contribution in Canada as a psychologist. Practicing at the Vancouver Costal Health Authority Dr. Ungar has provided existential and cognitive-behavioral therapies to adolescents and their families. He has also participated in various research projects dealing with suicide prevention, and has lectured at Trinity Western University and St. Mark’s College in Vancouver. As member of the Board of Directors of the Viktor Frankl Institute in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Ungar, has written three books, while the fourth is currently edited for publication.

Dr. Ungar has helped clients suffering from a variety of mental disorders, family concerns, marriage and relationship issues, anxiety and panic disorders, depression and addiction. His case conceptualization is holistic, considering the emotional, intellectual, social, vocational, spiritual, and interpersonal aspects of the presenting problem. His approach to treatment is tailored to the needs of individual clients, and may include solution-focused, meaning oriented, existential, psychodynamic, and cognitive-behavioral interventions.
