Additional Information about this counsellor or psychologist:
In over two decades of a thriving professional multi-purpose practice, Pond’s methods have helped others to overcome major challenges. His own personal battle for sobriety provides him with unique empathy and insight. He has discovered first hand that empathy or “personal compassion” is the number one key ingredient to heal and respond positively to therapeutic intervention. The second key ingredient is insight or “personal understanding” of experience. We all want to be heard and understood.
Through his many years of professional and personal experience in the challenges of living, Pond has learned that the building, cultivating and nurturing of relationships is the hub of a happy and fulfilling life. That magical connection that happens between two individuals when they feel mutual empathy and understanding. A deep awareness and positive emotional experience of one another. The interpersonal aspects of the therapeutic relationship are vital.
Pond’s mission is to enhance the quality of interpersonal relationships in the ongoing effort to facilitate positive change in individuals, groups and communities.
Pond’s philosophy: “It may not be my fault, but it is my responsibility”.
Pond likes to avoid the notions of blame and fault-finding as they serve no positive or productive purpose. He prefers to focus on the idea or frame of reference of personal accountability and responsibility.
With his extensive background in psychiatric nursing and clinical social work, Michael blends the medical and social models offering a unique multifaceted and holistic approach to therapy. He assesses a patient’s need and develops a therapy uniquely designed to build confidence and self esteem. His wealth of knowledge and experience in psychiatry and social systems serves to enhance and deepen the therapeutic relationship and facilitate positive change and personal growth. He utilizes what he likes to call a two pronged approach: 1) counseling and providing practical tools and strategies for problem solving, and; 2) deeper techniques and psychotherapy to enhance insight and conscious understanding of ones thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
“Acknowledge the problem then focus on the solution”.
Pond believes that first one must identify the problem or issue and admit it exists. Denial is the first hurdle to jump. After acknowledgment, the next step is to take personal responsibility for the situation and take the necessary action to resolve it.
Discover the solution and focus on it and take the required action. In the therapeutic relationship, Michael Pond will guide you through this process of profound positive change and grow toward health and wellbeing.
