Additional Information about this counsellor or psychologist:

Life can be difficult for many reasons. Sometimes coping abilities are strained to the limit when major stresses, traumatic events, or losses occur in life. For some individuals life may often feel like a struggle due to longstanding feelings of inadequacy, lack of confidence in social situations, and heightened sensitivity to criticism or rejection. Couples who desire loving, close relationships may find that the same conflicts arise again and again that seem to have no solution. If despite your best efforts, you have been unsuccessful in overcoming your difficulties, a psychologist can help you see your situation in a fresh way, develop better coping skills, improve your cofnidence, and assist you in finding a path to regaining a sense of well-being and satisfaction in your life.

I have helped individuals and couples with a range of psychological problems, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, stress, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, pain coping difficulties, low sense of self-worth, assertiveness, unresolved childhood trauma, difficulty adjusting to major losses, and relationship difficulties.

In my clinical practice, I have a special itnerest in helping individuals who have difficulty developing close, satisfying relationships. Research has shown that often the psychological problems that adults experience in life have their source in adverse childhood experiences that have left emotional vulnerabilities.

I have many years of experience in the disability management area of helping persons who have been injured or traumatized on the job improve their coping and return to work.

Everyone’s situation is unique, and so I always adapt treatment approaches to fit the individual and his or her particular circumstances. I place great importance on establishing an active, collaborative working relationship with the client to maximize the benefits of treatment.

In my Lower Mainland private practice in the Surrey – Langley – Delta area of BC, I provide counselling and psychotherapy for individuals and couples. I use various cognitive-behavioral methods for the treatment of anxiety, PTSD, social phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and panic disorder. When appropriate, mindfulness and relaxation methods are also a part of my approach. For relationship problems, and where there are complicating factors such as a past history of sexual abuse, or difficulty expressing emotional intimacy, or “toxic effects” of having grown up in a dysfunctional family, or difficulty dealing with losses, then alternative approaches such as psychodynamic psychotherapy or interpersonal experience-focused or problem solving orientations may be better suited to helping the person let go of old self-defeating patterns of behavior. In couples therapy overcoming these emotionally wearing, self-defeating patterns of communicating is important in restoring closeness and trust.
